RAVEL Maurice (1875 - 1937) - Lot 166
RAVEL Maurice (1875 - 1937) L.A.S. "Maurice Ravel", August 2, 1901, to Jane GAUDIN, in Saint-Jean-de-Luz; 4 pages in-8 at the address 40 bis, rue de Douai, torn envelope. After his success in the Prix de Rome competition (2nd second great prize). "How much I thank you, my dear Jane, for your good congratulations, and how confused I am about the lack of eagerness I have shown to answer them! The cause of this is the weariness left after nearly two months of overwork. The competition is very hard, the fatigue is considerably softened when one obtains a result. And it is a very satisfying result to get a 2nd prize for a first competition. We may have the opportunity to talk directly about all this soon. We hope to be able to go to Luz towards the end of August; but this is still only a project, and I dare not count on it. It would be so nice to get together! What beautiful rides on a bike, and in a car! For it is in this crew that we think of going to see you. My father's car, on which we have already made some rides, gave us full satisfaction. That is a good omen !"... The integral, n° 25.
