SCHUMANN ROBERT (1810-1856) - Lot 209
SCHUMANN ROBERT (1810-1856) L.A.S., D[resden] November 17, 1849, to Fritz SPINDLER; 2 pages in-8, address; in German. Letter of encouragement to a young composer. [Fritz SPINDLER (1817-1905) was a student of Friedrich Wieck] He will not come to Leipzig until the last week of January. It will be a pleasure for him to talk to the management about the performance of Spindler's symphony. But he fears that the concerts of the year and the new pieces to be performed have already been decided. The Euterpe, whose current director is Mr. Brendel, will remain anyway. He congratulates Spindler on his symphony; everything must sound very good, here and there he would have liked it to be a little softer, i.e. without trumpets and trombones. One could add an introduction to the 1st sentence, it would lose nothing ("Ich gratuliere Ihnen schön zu Ihrer Symphonie; es muß alles sehr gut klingen, hier und da wünschte ich Einiges milder d. h. Trompeten und Posaunen heraus. Sollten Sie nicht dem 1sten Satz eine Einleitung noch beifügen können; mir scheint, er würde dadurch nichts einbüssen"). He is sorry for the long delay in his answer, but he has been very busy lately....
