SIBELIUS Jan (1865 - 1957) - Lot 212
SIBELIUS Jan (1865 - 1957) L.A.S. "Jean Sibelius", Järvenpää 5 May 1905, to Robert LIENAU; 2 pages in-4 (binder holes in margin); in German. To his publisher, about his works. He sends him the orchestral score of Pelléas et Mélisande and a small Romance for string orchestra. The piano arrangements of Pelléas will be available very soon. He asks if Lienau also wants the Chanson de Mélisande if he wants it printed in the Suite d'orchestre. As his score was in Swedish, he crossed out the song. He will send the song, arranged for piano, in French, German and Swedish, which Lienau will be able to print as he wishes. The founder of the National Theater having left his post because of his old age, a great festival was organized in his honor. Sibelius was chosen as the composer of the festival, and he made a Cortège, which he will soon send to Lienau, with the Violin Concerto, and two choruses, one in Finnish and the other in Swedish; the one in Finnish is taken from the national epic Kalevala. All these works are already old; he will do something new and good for Lienau before the fall. He suggests to call the music of Pelléas "Entr'acte Musik".
