STRAUSS Richard (1864 - 1949) 8 L.A.S. "Richard Strauss", 1912-1916, to Arthur BERNSTEIN in Hannover; 10 1/2 pages in-8, envelopes; in German. Correspondence to concert organizer and agent Arthur Bernstein (1878-1938). Berlin [Nov. 18, 1912], about a concert program, and rehearsal with Professor Bruckner. [Dresden 6 January 1915]. He is taken on January 23 by Lohengrin. He proposed mid-February; his fee was 500 marks (of which 5% for Bernstein). Garmisch July 4, 1915. For 1500 marks, in time of war, he will come to conduct in Hanover, and proposes four dates at the end of October. - July 8. He recalls his fee of 1500 M., from November 1 to 4. He conducts his Alpensinfonie with the Dresdner Hofkapelle at the Berlin Philharmonie on October 28. He could repeat the Berlin concert in Hanover, and calculates the costs for the Alpensinfonie, including 5000 M for the orchestra. The Domestica or the opera Guntram could also be given. - August 13. Slezak could conclude the concert, either an aria from Guntram, or songs with orchestra, or lieder with piano. - October 7. He would like to know which orchestra he will conduct in Hannover; he suggests the Blüthner Orchester or the Berliner Philharmoniker. Rehearsal on November 2, concert on November 4. He is at Berlin from October 10 to 18 at the Hotel Adlon. - Dresden October 25. He gives the program: Mozart, Guntram with orchestra, Don Juan, lieder with piano, Tod und Verklärung. Garmisch July 15, 1916. Project of concerts in Gera, Halberstadt and Breslau; fees.
