STRAUSS Richard (1864 - 1949) - Lot 220
STRAUSS Richard (1864 - 1949) L.A.S. "Richard Strauss", Garmisch September 10, 1918, to Otto LOHSE, director of the Leipzig opera house; 3 pages in-8 on the letterhead of Landhaus Richard Strauss; in German. Nice letter about his activity as conductor of his own operas, for a Strauss week in Leipzig. Lohse's letter arrived while Strauss was celebrating the 24th anniversary of his marriage. He thanked for the initiative of a Strauss week and was happy to participate, but not before mid-December. He conducts on December 9 in Lodz, and on December 12 in Berlin. He could be in Leipzig on December 13, when Lohse can schedule the first evening. Saturday the 14th, rehearsals; and Monday the 16th, he would conduct the performance (perhaps Elektra). He suggests: Friday 13 Feuersnot, Salome; Sunday 15 Rosenkavalier; Monday 16 Elektra; Tuesday 17 Ariadne. Thursday 19, perhaps a concert of the Gewandhaus, as NIKISCH has wished to play some of Strauss' works one day, if he feels like it and it suits Lohse. He will finish his pre-Christmas work in Berlin on December 12 and then travel to Garmisch via Leipzig for his vacation. He will stay all winter in Garmisch rather than in Munich so that the mountain air can compensate for what is missing in the food...
