TCHAIKOVSKY PIOTR ILITCH (1840-1893) - Lot 231
TCHAIKOVSKY PIOTR ILITCH (1840-1893) L.A.S. "P. Tchaikovsky", Kamenka 5 September 1880, to Eduard Frantsovich NAPRAVNIK; 4 pages oblong in-8 to his cipher; in Russian. He has come to pester Napravnik [Eduard NÁPRAVNIK (1839-1916), of Czech origin, was for a long time the conductor of the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, as well as of the concerts of the Russian Musical Society, and a close friend of Tchaikovsky's, whose works he premiered. He was also a close friend of Tchaikovsky's, whose works he had created many times. "It is very important for him to know whether his opera [La Pucelle d'Orléans] will be performed in the current season or not, because his plans to spend the winter somewhere abroad depend on it. If the opera is scheduled, then, of course, he will be in Petersburg before the performance; if not, he will leave for Italy all winter. He will go to Petersburg whenever necessary. He hopes that Jurgenson has delivered the copies of the piano reduction in time and that the promise to give them to the Management before August 1 has been kept. He devoted his summer to proofreading the score, where there seem to be no major errors, except for some minor misprints. [The Maid of Orleans will be premiered on February 25, 1881 at the Mariisnky Theater] Original Russian text (and English translation): Letter 1579 - Tchaikovsky Research (tchaikovsky-research.net)
