ALAIN-FOURNIER (1886-1914). - Lot 1
ALAIN-FOURNIER (1886-1914). L.A.S. "Alain-Fournier", "2, rue Cassini" [ca. November 24, 1911, to Francis de MIOMANDRE]; 1 page in-8 of a bifeuillet, with newspaper article on p. 3 with autograph corrections. "I would like to make known to you, free of printing errors, the first newspaper article in which it is, in France, a question of the Peacocks. Would you like to transmit it with the homage of my profoundly respectful sympathy to the Peacockian Assembly"... On the second sheet, he pasted a press clipping, his article from the Paris-Journal, "Les "Peacocks"", with 5 autograph corrections in black ink. [The critic, novelist and poet Francis de Miomandre (1880-1959) had founded during one of his stays in Brussels the "Peacockians", a "secret" poetic society placed under the invocation of the saugrenu and the humor of Dickens. The three other founding members were Marie Closset, poetess signing under the pseudonym of Jean Dominique, Blanche Rousseau and Marie Gaspar. Miomandre published a confidential Digression Peacockienne, of which some passages are quoted in Alain-Fournier's article: "These three characters spent a few hours not taking life seriously, while reading Russian novels or plays by Ponsard, having tea, in short, doing anything absurd, ingenious, and spontaneous"].
