FLAUBERT Gustave (1821-1880).
L.A.S. "Gve Flaubert", Concarneau 25 September 1875, to Philippe BURTY; 2 pages in-8 on blue paper. About a drawing by Musset that Burty wanted to reproduce. "I do not have an album containing drawings of literary people. Me Sand gave me two or three caricatures done by Me Viardot, - a portrait of Chopin done by her (G. Sand) - & an excellent charge of Paul Foucher by Alfr. de Musset. All this, my dear friend (is or rather) would be at your disposal. For I will not return to Croisset. I will go from here to Paris directly. These drawings are under lock and key in my library. To get them, I would have to go back (pardon the subjunctive) myself. He advises to go and see Paul de Musset, "the said Paul having several drawings of his brother, very curious"... "The most serious troubles, the saddest and most annoying affairs have beset me for five months. In short, I have spent an abominable summer & I have fled my home, to find myself in another environment. I don't know if my poor brain will recover from the shock it has received? You can see from my trembling handwriting that my nerves are sick. Correspondence (Pléiade), t. V, p. 1096.
