Bug-Jargal (Paris, Urbain Canel, 1826); in-12, midnight blue half-calf, smooth spine decorated, marbled edges, modern paper case (period binding). First edition on strong vellum paper, extremely rare, of Victor Hugo's first novel. Signed autograph letter on the title page to his father, General Hugo: " à mon bon et noble père ", signed with an initials. Frontispiece by Deveria on Chine. This first novel written by Victor Hugo appeared in a first version in Le Conservateur littéraire in 1820, but did not appear in a definitive edition in bookshops until 1826, three years after Han d'Islande. Freckles, skilful restorations to the spines and headpieces. Provenance: F. Moderato (manuscript bookplate), Albert Natural (bookplate).
