"We do not have enough butter and butter is forbidden in the parcels. In spite of all the diplomacy, we have meat only in small quantities: I don't despair at all. I will have rabbits and chickens if I can find someone to kill them. He will have vegetables, and fruits; he will make a first test parcel. "For our settlements, I will send you the bills, and keep the totals. I look forward to the first tobacco. I prefer the gray cube of French tobacco to the blue Gauloises."...
