Charles maurras (1868-1952). - Lot 174
Charles maurras (1868-1952). Inscriptions (Paris, Librairie de France, F. Sant'Andrea, L.Marcerou & Cie, 1922); in-12, binding with exposed nerves, composed of two pieces of leather with printed faux braided patterns, one yellow on the top of the spine arranged in a point overflowing on the boards, the other grey covering the rest of the spine and a small part of the boards; brown satin varnished medium, small black cabochons; yellow nubuck lining, illustrated cover and spine preserved, grey box spine folder lined with yellow nubuck, slipcase (J. de Gonet, 2006). First edition on edition paper of this poetic tribute to the memory of the Aix poet Joachim Gasquet who died the year before, who had exalted like him the beauties of the Provencal land. Autograph letter signed to Marcel PROUST: "to Marcel Proust/very cordial souvenir,/with apologies for a long silence./Ch. M." If Proust disagreed with some of Maurras' political convictions, he appreciated the perfect writer, "a kind enchanter" who had praised the collection Les Plaisirs et les Jours, and whom he counted among his literary masters (preface to Morand's Tendres Stocks). A reader of L'Action française, he gave an excerpt from Le Côté de Guermantes II in this journal. Beautiful binding by Jean de GONET, from the series "en biais" designed for books from Marcel Proust's library. Provenance: From the library of Marcel Proust (Librairie Jean-Claude Vrain, 2006, n° 123).
