SAND George (1804-1876).
L.A.S. "Aurore", [Nohant August 8, 1836], to Louis-Mammès PIERRET; 3 pages in-8, addressed to "Madame Dupin to give to Mr. Pierret" (small split repaired, and small tear from broken seal). On her financial situation after separation from her husband. Pierret, employed at the Ministry of Finance, was a close friend of Madame Dupin, Sand's mother. She writes to him for "a service that concerns mother. I think I still have 500 francs of income on the 700 francs I had two years ago. Mr. Dudevant had 200F of the annuity sold to give me the capital I demanded as a result of our first treaty. He claims that there were only 500 at the time and that there is therefore only 300 left. I would like to be certain about this. If there is 500F, you will take care of getting it for my mother in the future. If there is only 300, you will also receive it for her and I will make her receive the extra 200F in any way she wants. But finally, if we have 500F on the state, it is useless to leave part of it to Mr. Dudevant. [...] I am not writing to my mother tonight because I want to write to her at length and the time of the post is pressing. Give her a kiss for me in the meantime and tell her to be calm about her interests. She invites Pierret to come soon "to smoke the cigarette of friendship" with her. Correspondence, t. III, n° 1245.
