SAND George (1804-1876).
L.A.S. "G. Sand", Nohant 4 March [1858], to Tony FAIVRE; 3 1/2 pages in-12 in his own number, in blue ink, envelope with red wax seal with the motto Vitam impendere vero. Nice letter evoking his son's puppets. [The painter Tony FAIVRE (1830-1905) stayed in Nohant, where he took part in theatrical performances; we owe him a portrait of G. Sand]. His son Maurice revealed to him "the mysteries of your laziness towards letters and the horrors of the cold in which you were immersed. I hope that the cold is over; as for the laziness, I told Maurice to excuse you from fighting it. I know you are not forgetting us and I am still counting on your promise to come back for longer; much longer, this year. You know that I have a commission for you, in addition to the great dramatic works that require you. Maurice writes me that you give superb performances of the puppets with him, since you are the orchestra with great effects, all by yourself. I regret not being here to share such powerful emotions. Try however that Maurice works a little, and that painting finds its hour in the middle of all these intoxications "... Correspondence, t. XIV, n° 7758.
