CLAUDEL Paul (1868-1955) [AF 1946, 13e f].
autograph MANUSCRIT, and TAPUSCRIT with autograph corrections and additions (fragments) for his Discours de réception à l'Académie Française, [December 1946]; 1 page and a quarter in-fol. and 9 pages in-4 (slits). Claudel's reception speech at the Académie Française, written in November and December 1946, was delivered at his reception on March 12, 1947, and collected in Discours et Remerciements (1947). We have here the manuscript of a passage to be inserted "between pages 1 and 2" of the typed text, where Claudel humorously portrays himself as an ambassador, sensitive to the honor bestowed upon him by the Academy: "But opposite him, on the opposite bench, opposite the traveler that I try to depict to you, there is someone who does not seem to care for the moment of this invitation to disappear: someone who reproduces the age, and, my faith, more or less the features, and it is not what he could do of better! of his opposite"... Plus the triple typing of pages numbered 2, 14 and 25, with autograph additions and corrections.
