DUCIS Jean-François (1733-1817) poète et auteur dramatique [ - Lot 61
DUCIS Jean-François (1733-1817) poète et auteur dramatique [AF 1778, 33e f]. L.A.S. "Ducis", Marly 12 August 1782, to Alexandre DELEYRE; 4 pages in-4. Charming and long letter. He addresses her a romance whose subject he took "on the banks of your country stream", and foresees tender moments for Deleyre in his family retreat... He recalls the charms of L'Etang-la-Ville, La Celle, "our Bougival", evoking in passing their friend Thomas and the Count d'Angiviller, and speaks of the success of a text he read to M. Lefebvre and to Mlle de BEAUMANOIR. "The spirit looked a lot through the windows which were never more beautiful. I have looked through the four floors of this elegant building without pretending to do anything. The spirit charges me to thank you. The spirit is happy, very happy. The alabaster neck was blooming yesterday; the forehead has never been so pure, so noble. This veined porphyry let the young blood circulate with delight. I dined with this tower of ivory which was fixed and ambulatory in turn, and whose spirit, a true enchanter, could make the wisest man lose it. The misfortune is that one can hardly throw on this fire the work of tragedy which is another brazier. But I save myself by vigorous monologues full of reason, from the danger of charming dialogues.
