L.A.S. "Pompignan", Orsay September 11, 1761, to Étienne-Alexandre-Jacques ANISSON-DUPERON, director of the Imprimerie Royale; 2 pages in-4, addressed with red wax seal with his arms. About his Éloge historique de Mgr le duc de Bourgogne (Imprimerie Royale, 1761). [The son of the Dauphin had died in March, in his tenth year]. He approves the work, and in particular the portrait, but as it will not be ready at the same time as the binding of the twelve copies, he will arrange with M. de Saint-Florentin to present them without the portrait on Sunday the 20th. "M. le duc de LA VAUGUYON [governor of the Children of France] wishes thirty six copies for himself; it will be necessary to have as many for the house of the prince, or for the ministers, and other persons of the court to whom one makes these kinds of presens, which amounts to three dozen in all. I would ask you not to have the copies you have destined for me trimmed. [As for those which are to be given to Mgr. the Dauphin, I do not know in what way he wants them. All I know is that he asks for a hundred" He asks him to have copies bound for Mme de Pompignan and himself, "a small expense, but it seems appropriate to me that the King should spare me this one". A handwritten copy of his ode L'Irreligion is attached.
