SAINTE-BEUVE Charles-Augustin (1804-1869) [AF 1844, 28e f]. - Lot 202
SAINTE-BEUVE Charles-Augustin (1804-1869) [AF 1844, 28e f]. 3 L.A.S. "Ste Beuve", Paris [1827-1845], to Victor HUGO; 1 page in-8 or in-12 each, 2 addresses. Saturday [10 February 1827]. He accepts his invitation to his father-in-law's house. "Only, Monsieur Hugo forgot to tell me the name of the person who wants to do me the favor of receiving me. Would it be an indiscretion to ask him to tell me by a single word in his letter" Sunday [May 30, 1841]. He hesitates to add his request to all the others that overwhelm him, but it would be "very pleasant to owe you my entrance ticket to your reception. In my requests to Mr. Lebrun I did not make one for myself, reserving to send it to you. [I have no doubt that you will respond favorably to my desire" Sunday [March 2, 1845]. "I wanted to thank you the other day, after this beautiful solemnity, for your kindness to me; but you were too busy []. Now that the flow is less hurried, let me tell you how grateful I was, and for all the pleasure you gave me and for the way you put it. Your bill which I keep is for me a very honorable token of presence which can be long enough for me ". Attached is a copy of the Discourses pronounced in the public session held by the Académie Française for the reception of M. Sainte-Beuve on February 27, 1845 (Typographie de Firmin-Didot frères, 1845), red cloth binding with mark and motto of Ph. Burty on the upper cover. Former collections of Philippe BURTY, then Daniel SICKLES (18-19 November 1993, n° 6562).
