VILLEMAIN Abel-François (1790-1870) [AF 1821, 17e f). 16 L.A.S. "Villemain", [1825-1836 and n.d.], to Paul-François DUBOIS; 23 pages in-8 or in-12, some on the letterhead of the University of France and the Ministry of Public Instruction, some addresses (2 portraits attached). Interesting correspondence to the director of the Globe. L'Étoile reproduced a truncated version of the piece inserted in Le Globe... The tragic death of CARREL afflicts him: "In spite of his false road, I estimate his rare vigour of spirit, and his talent"... (July 31, 1836)... On the library of the college of Eu, the inspection tours of Dubois and Ampère, requests of professors... He speaks about his family and its mourning, about the death of Augustin THIERRY, about Guizot and Salvandy, etc. Attached are 28 L.A.S. and 1 L.S., 1816-1868, to various people (Laya, Salvandy, Quatrefages, Arnault, etc.); a pen-and-ink caricature by the Count de NOÉ (plus 2 announcements). Plus 2 l.a.s. from SALVANDY to Dubois.
