ZOLA Émile (1840-1902). - Lot 255
ZOLA Émile (1840-1902). L.A.S. "Emile Zola", Paris April 9, 1892, [to Pierre LOTI]; 2 pages in-8. After Pierre Loti's acceptance speech at the Académie française, in which he had attacked naturalism. His letter touches him infinitely and he assures him that he has neither anger nor resentment, only regret that he was allowed to commit a fault which he will later grieve... "My sorrow is that one of us, - you are and you will remain one of us, - has thus ignored, in his vast and multiple efforts, the great contemporary literary movement. I had been warned of your attacks, I thought I had to go and hear them. And let me tell you that it would not have been worthy of you nor of me, if, having wanted them, you had suppressed them, because I was there. I have for your so great and so personal talent the most lively sympathy, and I am happy to declare it publicly "...
