Odes and various poems. - Nouvelles Odes. - Odes et Ballades (Paris, Pélicier, 1822 and Ladvocat, 1824-1826); 3 vol. in-12 (15,6 x 10,2 cm), midnight blue morocco, gilt fillets with fleurons and volutes framing the boards, ornate ribbed spine, inner borders of same skin with gilt fillets, covers and spine preserved, lined case (Cuzin). Reunion of the first three poetic collections of Victor Hugo, the first one enriched with a sending to the Marquis de Lauriston. Odes et Poésies diverses (Paris, Pelicier, 1822). First edition printed at 500 copies, with a rare frontispiece engraved by Mauduit after Devéria, La Chauve-souris, here in double state, before and after the letter. Autograph address on the back of the reinforced cover: "To His Excellency the Minister of the King's Household, Tribute from the author" [Jacques Jean de LAURISTON (1768-1828), military, diplomat and politician who made Victor Hugo obtain a royal pension in 1822]. A l.a.s. from Fernand VANDEREM, to Paul Villeboeuf, about this copy, [November 18, 1916] is enclosed. Nouvelles Odes (Paris, Ladvocat, 1824).
