Ruy Blas (Paris, H. Delloye, 1838); in-8, contemporary binding in black half-maroon with corners, gilt fillets on the boards, smooth spine decorated with gilt motifs throughout, covers preserved. First edition of this play first performed at the Théâtre de la Renaissance (for its opening), November 8, 1838. This copy is enriched with 2 autograph bills signed by Victor Hugo (1 p. in-12 each). - March 31 [1846, to Antony BÉRAUD, director of the Ambigu?], requesting a box for Les Mousquetaires, "in charge of revenge when it pleases you to see Ruy Blas". - Saturday midnight ½, [to Frédérick LEMAÎTRE, creator of the role of Ruy Blas]: "You have been sublime".... Attached are 2 parodies (2 vols. in-8, modern half red morocco binding). - Le Puff (Paris, Marchant éditeur, 1839). Parody of Ruy-Blas, "in rhymed prose", by Carmouche, Varin and Huart, represented for the first time at the Variétés, on December 31, 1838. - les Hures-Graves, Trifouillis en vers... et contre lesBurgraves (Paris, C. Tresse, 1843). First edition of this parody of the Burgraves, by Dumanoir, Siraudin and Clairville. Plus Rothomago (Paris, Marchant, 1839), first edition of this play by the Coignard brothers, performed for the first time at the Palais-Royal theater, on January 1, 1839, and which alludes to the works of Victor Hugo.
