HUGO Victor (1802-1885). - Lot 105
HUGO Victor (1802-1885). L.A.S. "Victor Hugo", Hauteville house October 4 [1859], to Louis JOURDAN; 2 pages small in-8 (small tears at upper corners of 2nd page), address. Beautiful letter about La Légende des siècles. "This handshake that I gave you in your prison, dear companion of struggle and trial, you return it to me in exile. I thank you and I love you. You are one of those strong hearts which are attached with a generous gift of predilection, to the absent ones; from there your high and great fidelity to the duty and to the freedom. Be glorified to be so! I read (they arrive to me today) your two articles on The Legend of the Centuries in the Siècle and in your charming Causons. You make me hope for more. How to tell you my emotion and my tenderness! You do not forget me, you! You still love me, and you prove it with your noblest style, your highest reason, with all the effusions of your tender and deep spirit. This is also only a first letter, I would still have to write to you, but I cannot and do not want to delay a moment to throw towards you, through this stormy wind unleashed at this moment on my rock, this page of my heart. Thank you therefore, and to you always Ex intima anima"...
