3 L. A. S. "Pr Mérimée", [1850?-1867], to Mme Charles LENORMANT; 8 pages in-8 (one on green paper). [Amélie Cyvoct, niece and adopted daughter of Mme Récamier, had married the archaeologist Charles Lenormant (1802-1859). Their son François was also an archaeologist]. [Around 1850?] He wants to give books to his friend's children, "who seem to me too big to eat sweets", and thinks of The New Heloise for Juliette... - Cannes February 13 [1859]. He regrets that François has not been "better announced to H.M., who unfortunately is hardly an archaeologist except in military matters"; there is talk of a vice-consulate in Patras: "I fear that it is not too good a place, and that there are hardly any excavations to be made there. However it is a beginning". He regrets having to leave this beautiful country: "Everything is in bloom around us and what bloom!" He speaks of the Academy, of Dupin, Guizot, Mme de Boigne... - Compiègne November 17 [1862 ?] On a forthcoming election to the Institute, and the chances of François.... - Cannes December 26 [1867]. On the novel of the countess of BOIGNE [A passion in the big world], where there would be "quantity of portraits [...] which one claims resembling but little flattered". He has not yet read it: "I am afraid that the novel will spoil me the Madame de B. of whom I have kept a very vivid and tender memory"... A L.A.S. in English to his daughter Juliette LENORMANT, December 31, 1843, offering her a book...
