VERLAINE Paul (1844-1896).
Autograph poem signed "Paul Verlaine", A.F. Cazals, 1889; 1 page large in-8 (fold marks, upper and lower edges reinforced on verso). Beautiful sonnet in honor of his friend, the draftsman Cazals. [Portraitist, draftsman, Auguste Frédéric CAZALS (1865-1941) left many portraits of Verlaine; he watched over Verlaine during his last hours in January 1896 and made a moving portrait of the poet on his deathbed] The poem is dated Hôpital Broussais, July 1889; it was published in Dédicaces in March 1890. Verlaine made a correction in pencil on the second line. There are two variants with the final text. "Adonis expiring on flowers is not him. Narcissus in flower changed, not Arbate Sad to rhyme only hardly with Mithridate And not anything more which would remind us the boredom"...
