CHAISSAC Gaston (1910-1964)
6 L.A.S. "gaston chaissac" or "chaissac" of which 5 with drawing, Vix (Vendée) 1959-1962, to Enzo PAGANI; plus one gouache signed; 13 pages various sizes (3 letters on school notebook sheet), in ballpoint pen or pencil. Illustrated correspondence to his friend and gallery owner from Milan. [Enzo PAGANI (1920-1993), painter, collector and gallery owner, admired Chaissac and often visited him in Vix in the Vendée, leaving with a trunk full of works. He opened his own gallery in Legnano and then in Milan, where he organized four or five exhibitions dedicated to Chaissac. In 1957 he founded his own open-air museum of modern art in Castellanza (Varese)] June 9, 1959. "A free teacher, of peasant origin, taunted her pupil who was drawing men, calling her a Chaissac, to the great shame of the child and the great joy of the whole class. [...] It is not surprising that this lady confused my painting with the drawings of a child and found it perfectly laughable, but what is more surprising is that she confused my quality of satirical writer with God knows what to dare to use such a nerve towards me. All agree to denigrate him and to force him to say: "The clergyman and the secularism, two beautiful shits"... 2.X.1960. He does not know all his buyers at the Arc-en-ciel exhibition. He knew by Paulhan that Wilhelm UHDE, critic and collector of the naive, "had said to him to regret not drawing like me"... 3.5.1962. "I have done a few other works since your last visit, but I am depressed, demoralized and tired of living" .... He made "a fall of bicycle", and has the sprained wrist. A workshop is built for him: "I will repaint as soon as I have a place"; but he is not in good shape... He has received the 50.000 lire. "The inspired ones and their residence will be thus of very good omen but bad period of depression more marked and cold vaud of new maud of nape of neck. Real activity impossible. Finally let us hope that it will be better to inaugurate my workshop ". He speaks about his book The temptations of the feathers of the peacock... " Long live louis rhizodus and his graffiti ". 5 letters are illustrated with original drawings in ballpoint pen and pencil, one of which is enhanced with gouache. One is tinted in yellow on one side. Is attached a gouache cut: bust of man, in green, dedicated "to enzo pagani", signed and dated "October 60".
