PISSARRO Camille (1830-1903) L.A.S. "C. Pissarro", Éragny-sur-Epte July 12, 1893, to Alphonse PORTIER; 4 pages in-8 (split middle fold, small marginal cracks). About a painting falsely attributed to him. [Color dealer Alphonse PORTIER (1841-1902) was a strong supporter of the Impressionist painters]. "I see what the painting in question is, although I have not yet received the tracing that you tell me, but I can assure you that the said painting is not mine. 1° I have never been to a seaport except at the Little Dalles where I did two paintings of 15 that I still have. 2° My brother made in St Valerie of attrocious studies and by way of joke signed them without the letter C.... I had marked my surprise to him without paying too much attention to it. He made some, it will be necessary to be wary of it, besides it is too easy to recognize "... He longs to see his paintings cleaned: " you resuscitate them; since your visit here, I discovered paintings which are in a pitiful state and which absolutely need to pass by your skilful hands. I am picking from the figure, I have 5 to 6 of them almost finished". He is looking for a fan "representing the feast of St. Martin, with many figures and peasants", from the years 1880- 1882...
