PICABIA FRANCIS (1879-1953).
9 L.A.S. "Francis Picabia", Mougins and Paris 1930-1931, to a friend; 12 and a half pages in-4 or in-8, one on the letterhead of the Château de Mai. About his writings and the preparation of an exhibition. The correspondence goes from October 12, 1930 to January 16, 1931. It is first about a draft of a preface. October 17, 1930. "I am sending you the little "rant" about my current painting as you asked me to do, it will be easy to place it. As for the sentence you were talking about, of course you are right, it is better to put: "I have never been able to take most of my colleagues seriously". He lists the paintings he wishes to exhibit, with their dates and the names of their owners (H.P. Roché, Eluard, Max Ernst, Rose Adler...)... October 19. "I am sending you the catalog of Marcel Duchamp's sale, please keep it carefully, I only have this one. He lists nine paintings that appeared in it with the date, of which at least two would belong to André Breton.... October 20, about the paintings sold by Gabrielle Buffet... October 26, new list of 25 paintings with their dimensions. December 30. Reaction to articles of characters who "confuse painting with soulography; [...] Life is austere and tragic and has nothing to do with the art of calico"... January 7, 1931. "I sold a large painting to the Maharadja of Indore, alas, he only pays in October and that is very bad timing.... They asked me if I would go to India to decorate a "palace", that is to be seen, it is very hot there! I would prefer it to be in Paris"... A beautiful photographic portrait of Francis Picabia is attached, silver print from the period [1930] (23.5 x 17.5 cm)
