Marie-Josèphe de saxe (1731-1767)
23 L.A.S. "Marie-Josephe" (2 unsigned), Versailles, 1750-1766, to the countess of TOULOUSE (18) or to the duke of PENTHIÈVRE her son (5); 23 pages small in-4 or in-8, 9 envelopes and 7 addresses, several with red or black wax seals with arms. Nice correspondence to his aunt, full of affection and attentions. On August 17, 1750, she describes her condition: "The size of my waist is enormous, in spite of that I am very light. [...] I am dying to be rid of this big bundle which is quite inconvenient" [her first child, MarieZéphirine, was born on August 26; she lived only five years]. On February 24, 1754, she mourns the death of her third child, but another boy will be born on August 26 of the same year; it will be the future LOUIS XVI. She evokes the life at Versailles and the illness of her son the Count of Provence [the future LOUIS XVIII] (May 9, 1763) and mentions several times her brother François-Xavier de SAXE, Count of LUSACE, who fights successfully in the ranks of the army of the King of France. The letters to the duke of PENTHIÈVRE (August 17-September 11, 1766) are worried about the state of health of the countess of Toulouse, his mother, who will die on September 30, 1766. Attached is a L.A.S. from François duc de MODÈNE, father of the duchess of Penthièvre, just after the marriage of his daughter, to the countess of Toulouse (Venice 29 January 1745).
