L.A.S. "Vincent de Paul unworthy of the Mission", [January 1652], to the Reverend Father BOULART, at Sainte-Geneviève; 2 pages in-8, address with seal under Cong. Missionis Sup. Generalis. Rare and beautiful letter about the former parish priest of Lanneray (diocese of Chartres). François BOULART (1605-1667) was Abbot of Sainte-Geneviève in Paris, and was Superior General of the Congregation. Father Flamignon, referred to here, was a religious of the former Saint-Lazare; he was parish priest of Lanneray, in the diocese of Chartres; this modest priest, whose memory Vincent de Paul evokes here, was one of the obscure officials who propagated Vincent's charitable work in the countryside, sometimes in conflict with the lords of the place]. "The grace of our Lord be with you forever. I don't remember the name of the Cure of the late Mr. Flamignon, an ancient Religious of this time, it is one place from Chateaudun; your parents from there will be able to instruct you to do so. I do not know for certain whether he had any other benefit in his person than a chapel dictated by St. Radegonde who is in the parish church of which he was the parish priest and whom he pleaded against the Lord who is, if I may say so, Mr. de Nouveau. One of your fathers, who is living in his illness at his instance, will be able to tell you what he says to him, if I know of anything else, I will tell you with as much good heart as I am in love with our Lord My Lord My God. Père vostre tres humble & tres obeissant serviteur "... Correspondence (ed. Pierre Coste), vol. IV, no. 1448, p. 308.
