HAY DU CHASTELET Paul (1592-1636) magistrat et orateur, cons - Lot 711
HAY DU CHASTELET Paul (1592-1636) magistrat et orateur, conseiller de Richelieu; membre fondateur de l'Academie francaise. L.A.S. "Chastelet", Grenoble 16 October 1630, to M. DU PUY; 1 page in-fol., address with red wax stamps on the arms. Very rare letter on the siege of Casal. He wrote to him "only at the great meetings of our war... Today the treve expires [...] Gentlemen, our generals are leaving to go to Casal with tears", they will meet in the plain of Scarnafiz (Scarnafigi), and from there they will march on Casal, following "the path that we had left", as he reminds us...". The Duke of Scavoye, who promised to join us [...] is still asking for five more days of extension, and we refuse him flatly, I believe that since the snow is not in a state to resist us, we will make peace if the Duke can, or will be satisfied with us [...] by marching without coming to a front opposition or general combat... The Spaniard "to guard the Graubünden and Mantua" will probably accept peace, not being able to support Casal by arms... Etc. A P.S. "Paul Hay" is attached, Saint-Germain-en-Laye 2 July 1631, receipt for the payment of 1600 livres in reimbursement of the expenses of two trips to Langres for the King's service (vellum oblong in-4). Very rare, according to Raoul Bonnet who quotes these two documents in his Isographie de l'Académie française.
